After approval from Hurstville City Council, Romanous Construction is implementing a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate land surrounding Mortdale Plaza.
The work is an important and necessary response after it was discovered soil near the site had been affected by water runoff carrying contaminant particles, including ash, from industrial sites further upstream and from years of degradation caused by dumping of rubbish and contaminants by the public and previous tenants and land owners.
Romanous Construction engaged environmental consultants to investigate the land surrounding Mortdale Plaza and identify areas to be remediated. With their guidance, the company put into action a remediation plan for the affected area.
This involves significant bush regeneration and rehabilitation, an important step to help support the environment. The process also involves soil removal, the construction of retaining structures, suspended watercourse crossing and installation of major storm water drainage structures.
Romanous Construction has committed $1.2 million to analyse the land and implement the remediation plan. The rehabilitation of the affected land near Mortdale Plaza will be completed by May 2018.
